A Gravity Forms auto-reply that reads the message

Gravity Forms can already email the person who submitted — add a notification, set “Send To” to the email field, done. What it sends is a static template: the same words for a panel upgrade, an emergency, and a tire-kicker.

Making that reply react to what the lead wrote is where the SERP fills up with PHP snippets, gform_ filters, and paid perk add-ons. Or: forward the admin notification Gravity Forms already sends you, and let an AI trained on your business write the reply — with the one qualifying question that moves the job forward.

What the code route actually costs

Conditional, message-aware replies in Gravity Forms mean gform_notification filters, merge-tag gymnastics, or a developer on retainer — and the result is still rule-based text you wrote in advance. Every edit is a deploy; every WordPress update is a thing to check.

The notification-forward route needs none of it: Gravity Forms keeps doing exactly what it does today, and the intelligence lives outside your site. Change how replies sound by editing your agent's training and guidance, not your theme's functions.php.

Set it up: forward this form's notifications

01

Open your form’s notifications

In wp-admin: Forms → your form → Settings → Notifications → the Admin Notification that already emails you each submission.

02

Add your inbound address

“Send To Email” takes comma-separated addresses — keep yours, add your agent’s inbound lead address. Save the notification.

03

Run a test entry

Submit the form with a personal email. The tailored reply lands in that inbox in under a minute; your forward-to inbox gets the enriched summary when the lead answers.

The full walkthrough — with what to upload and how to test before paying — is in Connect your form & go live.

Who this is not for

  • It's not a phone or voice AI — the lead filled out a form, and the answer meets them in their inbox.
  • It's not a Gravity Forms add-on and installs nothing in WordPress — if you want per-field conditional templates inside GF, the perk add-ons do that.
  • It's not a bulk mailer. One reply per real lead; spam and vendor pitches are filtered and never counted.

Questions

Should I keep my existing GF user-notification?

Most businesses turn the static user-notification off so the lead gets one sharp reply rather than two competing emails. Test with both on if you want to compare them side by side.

Does it matter how my notification template is formatted?

No — {all_fields} or a custom layout both work. The agent parses the notification and extracts the lead’s name, email, and message regardless of the arrangement.

We run several Gravity Forms across the site. Can they share one agent?

Yes. Add the same inbound address to each form’s notification; they share training and all count toward the same $49/mo, 500-lead plan.

Do I need an OpenAI key or a webhook add-on?

Neither. No API keys, no webhooks, no Zapier — the email notification you already send is the entire integration.
